Nashville Eats Review

Sun Jul 13, 2008 at 09:05:31 PM PDT

I've been in Nashville and haven't really found a lot I like.  I judge everthing by Philadelphia standards, so maybe I'm just having trouble getting into the NashVegas mindset.

So what, I was thinking to myself earlier, what could I do to change that?

African Bishops attempt takeover of Anglican Church

Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 02:08:32 PM PDT

I'd laugh my Episcopalian self silly if this were not true.  Picked up by Google News, The Jerusalem Post has reported that

In a revolutionary move bordering on schismatic, African archbishops unilaterally announced Sunday in Jerusalem that they have taken over the leadership of the Anglican Church from England and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.

"We Had An Abortion", with poll

Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 02:25:53 PM PDT

In 1972 the MS magazine premier issue did an historic thing: they published a petition in which 53 women declared they had abortions.  At this time abortion was neither safe nor legal.  And it certainly was not rare.  It was frequently painful, since anesthesia and pain medicine may or may not have been available.

The woman having an abortion may have been blindfolded and taken to a location where someone, hopefully a sympathetic doctor, would perform the "procedure". After a very short recovery time, haven been given a few illegal pain meds, she might have been blindfolded and taken close to her home where she had to walk in and pretend, "Gee, Mom and Dad I'm just having a very bad period."  At least that's what my friend "Jeannie" had to do in her freshman year of high school.

More below the fold:

Updated Rumsfeld compares critics to Hitler appeasers

Tue Aug 29, 2006 at 02:34:23 PM PDT

Update: ThereIsNoSpoon beat me to the finishline, so if y'all feel this is too similar to him, let me now and I'll get out the WiteOut! Are you ready for your Daily Fair Share of Abuse?

This comes from the Houston Chronical;

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday the world faces "a new type of fascism" and likened critics of the Bush administration's war strategy to those who tried to appease the Nazis in the 1930s.

In unusually explicit terms, Rumsfeld portrayed the administration's critics as suffering from "moral or intellectual confusion" about what threatens the nation's security. His remarks amounted to one of his most pointed defenses of President Bush' war policies and was among his toughest attacks on Bush's critics.

Let's all hold hands and jump!

Medicare D: more than just a donut hole, death hole!

Thu May 11, 2006 at 11:35:11 AM PDT

it has a blackhole which they told no one about! My father was told by Medicare D that he made too much to enroll, which suited him just fine because the thought it was a huge scam to benefit the pharm lobbies. Well, if they pharmaceutical companies and the government can't get you one way, they'll get you another.

Of being raped and polygraphed in Tennessee

Wed May 03, 2006 at 08:44:05 AM PDT

Some Tennessee GOP think that rape victims are liars and should be polygraphed. Last month, the Tennessee Senate bill 2971 passed, by a margin of 27-1. It would require law enforcement officials to polygraph rape victims to determine the "truthiness" of their claims. The House voted 77-10 to approve a bill prohibiting law enforcement officials from requiring an alleged rape victim to take a lie detector test in order to proceed with an investigation. Fortunately, even in Frist country, not all Republicans are this mysoginistic or stupid.
