Kos is big fat head with krazy-krossword orange book

Fri May 30, 2008 at 09:17:23 AM PDT

It's bad enough that El K dropped his book on libertarian Democrats; now he has the temerity to do another one instead, and with

     HIS BIG OL NAME

going in krossword-puzzle style down the title. Talk about ego! Woooooh! Don't let your head get too big Mr. K!!

Now if someone really KOOL were to do this, say, Harvey Korman (RIP) were to publish (have published) a book titled

      "King
       Of
       Really
       Manic
       Asinine
       Nonsense"

, I could see that. But who's this Kos guy??

Oh well he deserves some fun. Kongratulations!

Who kidnapped Kos' "libertarian Democrats" book? Whassup?

Sun Aug 12, 2007 at 04:51:42 PM PDT

Hey! Where's Kos' long-announced book on libertarian Democrats? Huh??
"Crashing the Gate" was fine (no Jerome Armstrong jokes please), but where's the next book? Where is it? Did it get kidnapped like some new Harry Potter manuscript held for ransom or something?
    So BRING IT ON!!!!

I briefly mentioned the idea of the book at the George Lakoff/clammyc/thereisnohekebolos seminar "Where Do We Go from Here?: Progressive Strategies and the Overton Window" at YKos last week, but will spare you the verbiage for now.

(I was gonna write a snark diary about Kos and YearlyKos, but seeing Kos' big victory over Gerald Ford, uh, Harold Stassen, uh, Harold Ford earlier today, I'll spare him for another week.)

This is NOT About "Spinelessness" Anymore: A Rant

Wed Jul 11, 2007 at 06:02:48 PM PDT

Some people say "O, what would you know about Democrats? You aren't even one yourself!!!!" Know what? I voted for plenty of you over the years, more often than not, and I've had my share of complaints about yas, but if I wasn't a radical Libertarian, I'd be a Dem. My parents were Dems (my siblings were, but I don't know what happened to them, either). The Love of My Life is a diehard Dem. And I still vote for ya, and I will again, too.

Anyway, after reading about some of this day's events, and after reading this diary, I no longer believe that the heinous crimes of BushCo continue, unabated, "Because The Opposition Guys Are Spineless Wussies".

Now, you're gonna have to work with me here, OK? I've been putting in 12-14 hour days, at least 5 days a week (if not six), for a good couple of years. So I'll cop to "maybe it's just me, and my brain's just a little overtaxed right now..."

This won't be the popular view

Tue Apr 17, 2007 at 07:48:30 PM PDT

But I'm not going to let a criminal act scare me into surrendering my rights. Not for 9/11, not for V-Tech. I will not be led so easily by people that want me to be afraid so they can dictate the rules for me.

A Libertarian Idea: Repeal Stupid Laws.

Tue Mar 06, 2007 at 04:47:24 PM PDT

I never thought I would agree so thoroughly with former California Governor and current California Attorney General Jerry Brown as I did today.  Appearing with the bearded one named Wolf on The Situation Room on CNN this late afternoon, Jerry Brown spoke of the difference between being Governor, where your primary responsibility is to propose new laws, and being Attorney General, where your responsibility is to enforce the laws already on the books.

Mr. Brown then said there were thousands of laws to enforce, many of which are not necessary or are outdated.

Working with Libertarians

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 04:07:17 PM PDT

Julian Sanchez, a libertarian writer and a contributing editor for the libertarian-leaning Reason magazine, has some suggestions for liberals and progressives in how best to work with libertarian activists.  While it's focused on student campus organizations, the advice can easily be applied to other political situations.  As a libertarian Democrat, I think we all could benefit from Sanchez's advice.

Every liberal/libertarian debate ever right here.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 at 09:55:20 AM PDT

In a nutshell, here is a composite of every debate ever on the Libertarian Democrat subject.
Libertarian extolls belief in civil liberties, personal freedom, ending the drug war, non intrusive government, ect.
Liberal lumps all libertarians in with Ayn Rand.

10 Reasons for the Netroots to Reach Out to Environmentalists

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 06:49:04 PM PDT

I am an environmentalist.  I have been since I was very small.  And I'm a netroots activist - I haven't been that quite so long, but I have been reading political blogs since I was too young to drive a car.

In this post, Matt Stoller of MyDD lists some broad tactics to guide the netroots in building a people-powered movement for the coming years.  #2 on the list was: "Expand our netroots base: Let's get more people involved.  Let's build bridges to different communities, and bring their influentials onto the internet to engage in dialogue."

Crashing the States in MT and WY: Libertarian Democracy Rising

Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 02:22:25 PM PDT

Welcome to another edition of Crashing the States--featuring Montana Senate Candidate Jon Tester!  This diary comes from you live from Stockton, California--we're here to visit with the campaign of Jerry McNerney, who's challenging Richard Pombo in California's 11th district.

Our trek from Colorado to Montana also took us through Casper, Wyoming--where Gary Trauner's WY_AL congressional campaign is located.  So  we took the opportunity to visit with a local Wyoming blogger, as well as visit with Gary Trauner's campaign manager.

So follow below the fold for the story--along with a "special comment" about the idea of Libertarian Democracy in the Mountain West.

Online Poker Ban: Dems and the Green Felt Revolution

Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 11:48:26 AM PDT

Radley Balko, a senior editior at the libertarian-leaning Reason magazine, has a weekly column on the Fox News website.  In his latest, he attacks the Republicans for sneaking in a ban on online gambling using legislative tricks:

In the wee hours of the last night of the last session of Congress, Majority Leader Bill Frist attached a ban on Internet gambling to a port security bill.

It was a dubious maneuver, which not only prevented any real floor debate over the ban, but also attached an intrusive, unnecessary, big government measure to a bill that addressed important national security concerns. This meant that any senator who held the position that what Americans do with their own money in their own homes on their own time is none of the government's business couldn't vote against the gambling ban, lest they risk being smacked about the head with the "soft on national security" cudgel.

The responses are strongly anti-Republican. "Many of those in opposition describe themselves as either apolitical, conservative, or advocates of limited government"

Democratic Landslide: It's the Perot voters, Stupid!

Sat Oct 21, 2006 at 01:17:43 PM PDT

For several months now, Kos has been on this story that the the rise of the Western Democrat is result of Libertarian Democrats.  I want to offer a differing explanation that's not  neccesarily mutually exclusive.

It's the Perot voters, Stupid!

If you repeal Habeas...prepare to become a corpus

Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 06:54:36 AM PDT

So there has been a lot of hay lately over the idea of the "libertarian democrat" especially with Markos posting over at Cato. The result is that a number of diaries have sprung up asking what a libertarian dem is or coming from libertarians offering "advice" to dems on how to win their votes.

Now I can't speak for every libertarian, or libertarian democrat but I can speak for myself and what I believe and why I believe that it's high time to evict the squatters on capitol hill, if not the ones squatting over on Penn Ave completely.

Convenient marriages, couples porn, and libertarians playing with themselves.

Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 12:26:22 PM PDT

Nick Gillespie, Reason editor, has posted the final reaction essay to Kos' "Libertarian Democrat" essay at CATO Unbound. Kos indicated yesterday that he will not be responding until after the election. This is wise. After two swings in the batter box on the 'Libertarian Democrat' concept, the count on Kos is 0-2 with libertarians pitching. Kos should look a few pitches over before taking another swing.

Two observations on the libertarian reaction, and my cross-posted response to Gillespie are below the fold ...

A Marriage of Convenience.

A marriage of convenience

[This a cross post from my blog Divided We Stand United We Fall, written in response to Kos' essay at Cato Unbound. I was debating whether to post this here, but since it was the first Kos post on the subject of "Libertarian Dems" that brought me here, I thought it belonged. So, WTF - it's below the fold.]

Bruce Reed on libertarian Democrats

Wed Oct 04, 2006 at 08:42:53 AM PDT

Following on the lead article by Markos on if libertarians should vote Democratic, the DLC's Bruce Reed is offering his opinion at Cato Unbound.  He argues that the Democratic Party isn't about to end government, and this might not be enough for the hard core libertarians.  But the pragmatic libertarian should support the Democratic Party as the best chance for smaller government, limited government, and ending corporate welfare.

The Fraud of "libertarian" Republicans

Tue Jul 25, 2006 at 05:49:47 AM PDT

Note: What follows is an introductory essay I am working on for my blog, Freedom Democrats.  The blog is an online community for libertarian Democrats to come together and work for a common cause within the Democratic Party for greater freedom.  I am trying to have several essays explaining my reasons for not working within the Republican or Libertarian Party and why Democrats ought to open up to some form of moderate/pragmatic libertarianism.  I encourage everyone to respond with their thoughts on how I could improve this work.  Feel free to distribute it as well, as long as my name is still linked to it as my work.

Republican Pundit Fearful of Libertarian Democrats

Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 04:55:46 PM PDT

Ryan Sager, author of the upcoming book "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians and the Battle to Control the Republican Party", is afraid of the idea of "Libertarian Democrats."  He believes that the traditional conservative alliance between the South and the West has tilted too far toward the South and its social conservatism.  If Democrats are able to exploit this situation, they'll start a regional political alignment like the one the South went through starting in the 1960s.

Libertarian Democrats and Real ID Silence

Fri Jul 07, 2006 at 10:49:17 PM PDT

Ever since Kos posted his short piece on Libertarian Democrats, there has been quite a buzz in the libertarian community and here on Dkos.
Just type libertarian in the tag search and you can find daily diaries on the subject.
While many have talked about it, Kos has been very silent in pushing "Libertarian Democrat" issues.

Here is some insight on what issues Kos considers important to Libetarian Democrats:

So in practical terms, what does a Libertarian Dem look like? A Libertarian Dem rejects government efforts to intrude in our bedrooms and churches. A Libertarian Dem rejects government "Big Brother" efforts, such as the NSA spying of tens of millions of Americans.

Intruding, spying and "Big Brother".

One item that brings all three front and center will begin on Oct 26th.

Flipness...
